Johnny Wakelin (Brighton, 1939) is a British singer. Wakelin was born in 1939 in Brighton, Sussex. He was discovered on the local singing circuit by Robin Blanchflower, who launched Carl Douglas' career. In 1974, Wakelin got the idea to write a song about a legendary boxing match, The Rumble in the Jungle, between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman that would take place on October 30, 1974 in Zaire. However, the song Black Superman was not a success. However, the follow-up to this song, called In Zaire, became a worldwide success. After this, Wakelin also had a hit with Africa Man.
